Good girl vs. bad girl — which one actually goes over better with men? What are guys really into on a dating platform? Sweet girls who lovingly fuss over them? Or more the cool women with their I-don't-give-a-f**k attitude? This topic comes up over and over at my girls' nights, heatedly debated every time. I'll just say it upfront: we never land on an answer when it comes to dating platforms.

Whatever you do, you do it wrong... "In a relationship, men need a sweet little thing who adores them and does everything for them," my friend Kathrin (single for six years) insists. "I've had the opposite experience. Every single time I was nice to a guy, he ran for the hills," Sandra (single for five years) counters. I just shrug: no idea! I wouldn't describe myself as either a good little mouse or a total vamp. I can do both... at least a little bit. Maybe that's my problem?

Dating Platform

Dating Platform - 50% Good Girl, 50% Bad Girl

I want to find out which type actually has better odds with men on a dating platform, so I run my own little experiment. To make the contrast as stark as possible, I get a professional makeup artist to transform me specifically for my profile pictures. Look one: sweetheart with a braided hairstyle and simple makeup. Look two: wild mane, red lips, and shiny leather pants. Wow — in that second look I suddenly feel genuinely bad, and I'm tempted to date three guys at once. But first comes the actual test: which look actually performs better on a dating platform? Thanks to a gold profile, I can see every single guy who likes me. Exciting! I start out as the sweet girl and keep the photos online for a week. Result: over 3,000 matches. Not bad at all — I honestly expected fewer, but apparently the good-girl look pulls in all kinds of guys: business types, fitness freaks with six-pack photos, hipsters — the range is huge. I even end up chatting with two of them. A week later I delete the profile and switch to my vamp look. Within three days I've already cracked 3,000 matches, and after a week I'm past 5,000.

More Likes, More Chances at Mr. Right on a Dating Platform

Dating platform verdict: vamp-Nelly wins by a landslide. But does she really, though? Because this time too, I chat with several of the guys — and it quickly becomes clear that nobody asks bad girls about their interests or their job, only for nudes. After a "Hey, how's it going?" it's almost always straight to "Want to have some fun?" or "I'd love to see you naked." If I don't reply within a few hours, I get unmatched. Ouch!
